Winged Beauties

These antique German postcards were in one of my shoeboxes of old postcards....they are hand colored and glittered and full of fantasy and humor! I would like to display them creatively in the more whimsical, feminine guest bedroom at the lake house....but want to protect them.....Does any one have an idea? I'm hoping for some inspiration from all my talented creative friends in this blogging community......What would you do with these?

well....glad you asked ;)
I have 2 ideas:
1) photocopy them to fit different sized canvas and then decoupage them on there and be able to set them up in different spots, leaning, etc...
2) take an old framed window - paned - and put them on the inside...and add pressed butterfly wings or feathers too...not too crafty...just enough...OR...rest little bird nests on top of the window...hang or lean window in bathroom...

havea a great day!
and p.s. can you imagine posing for those photos? yikes!

The easiest, safest way to would be to put them under glass atop a small table, or display them by clipping them to a wire form, like your friend Evi did. You could also gently clip them to an old screen or display them behind the glass panes of an old window!

Beautiful postcards.
I'd put them in shabby chic frames. Off white with some pretty detailing. Perhaps mounted on a linen fabric.
Happy day!

How about a framed collage in a chippy frame with other ephemera.....wings, some gossamer febric, dried pressed flowers etc....a beautiful piece when finished. Or an altered book featuring those images.

What gorgeous images. I would turn them into a banner attaching them to silk ribbon with tiny clothes pegs or clips and stringing them across a window or dresser mirror.

Those are so neat! To display and preserve them I would frame them. It's the easiest way I think :)

All the best,

Hey Laura,
Well here we are an other weekend upon us. Wow doesn't the week seem to fly by. Got to see Evi and Ebi yesterday. Wished we could have spent more time together but she may come down again for the garden tour. Anyways on those amazing cards...I saw the other day someone who just put them in an old book using clear photo corners( I've only seen black ones) It looked great and the text in the background made the cards look even better.
Oh I was going to send your magazine today but it got too busy and got stuck here. Will try on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
love...
Carole

Hi Laura,
I love these winged images. I really like to put some of my favorite postcards under a piece of glass on my grandma's coffee table. I change them out every so often. Maybe you could try something like that... Now, should I paint that coffee table white? Maybe I'll post about it. Have a great weekend!

Lovely cards. I have five antique ones and they set in a drawer & have thought, often, about doing something with them. You must hang them somewhere out of the sun light but somewhere that they will be show cased. I agree that you should scan them to have a copy of the originals. Is there any writing on the back? How about hanging them with a narrow frame & glass on both sides so they look like they float...just an idea to consider...Tks for showing us your treasures...sharon

Beautiful cards. And so many suggestions from your blogging gal pals - I'm curious what you will finally decide...

Gosh, you have so many treasures!

Hmmmm....I would say frame them too but make sure you get the UV protected clear glass to keep the postcards from fading!

I learned a lot from all the comments you got! Great post!
